Welcome to my website! I am a professional violinist in the Richmond Symphony. I am also an active chamber musician and baroque violinist and have performed in local concert series including the Central Music Society of Central Virginia, Richmond Chamber Players, Three Notch’d Road: The Virginia Baroque Ensemble, Wintergreen Music Festival, and the Washington National Cathedral.
In addition to performing, I maintain a private teaching studio. I am a violin sectional coach for the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Program and have previously instructed at the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan.
Emily Monroe
In 2022, I received my Master of Music in Violin Performance and Chamber Music from the University of Michigan under the tutelage of Professor Aaron Berofksy. During my time in Ann Arbor I served as a section violinist in the Ann Arbor Symphony, Concertmaster of the University of Michigan’s Symphony Orchestra, and as a member of UM’s Baroque Chamber Orchestra under the leadership of Professor Joseph Gascho.
Previously, I graduated with a Bachelor of Music and a minor in Baroque Violin from Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music where I studied with Professor Cornelia Heard and Professor Maria Romero-Ramos.
From 2012-2016, I attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school program as a student of Professor Kevin Lawrence. My musical education began at the age of five with Ning Zhao, a violist in the Charlotte Symphony. Over the years, each of my teachers has inspired me and had a profound influence on my artistic growth.
